Meera is one of the greatest saint-poetesses of our country. She enriched an otherwise stark desert with her verse and enlightened millions who sought an alternative. Her glory lies in her ability to articulate through her poetry the turbulence that transpired in her life. It is because Meera’s life seems to be an allegory for most women that centuries later, Meera’s name lives on. Wherever Meera went, through the effervescence of her poetry, she spread the message of liberation and urged an inner awakening.
In this dance-drama, an attempt has been made to redefine the image of Meera. Towards this end ,the Kendra has made an attempt to remain as authentic as possible in production values. The choreography relies on the rich Rajasthani dance culture and keeps in view the cyclical evolution of Meera over the decades. The music draws upon a wealth of material furnished by the renowned scholar Komal Kothari. The production unfolds through dance and song, the image of Meera as a passionate apostle.
