About The Event
MALLARI
Mallari has been adapted from the temple traditions where the deity is taken out in a procession accompanied by various musical instruments. When it translates into dance it changes in many ways while retaining its essential emotion which is of Bhakti and grandeur.
RUSALI RADHA
This was a song that was adapted by shri ranganekars play into classical dance and music. Rusali radha is a depiction of a lovers tiff. Here both Radha and krishna are upset with each other thus causing all of Gokul and itself beings to lament with them.
VARNAM
Varnam is a central piece of the traditional structure called margam. It is also known as varna or colours and speaks of shades of love. It balances the abstraction and poetic exploration of lines, which are interpreted by the dancer. In this varnam, the nayika is pining for Lord Shiva and tells her Sakhi to bring him to her. There are layers to every varnam. At one point, it is shades of emotions; at another, it is shades of understanding that there is a deeper philosophical context to it, that the nayika represents the soul which is yearning to be with the Lord or Nayaka. It’s a beautiful Indic thought which is woven into dance.
Thillana
Is a concluding piece that celebrates the beautiful geometry of Bharatanatyam and comes as a concluding piece, it rises towards the end in its tempo and complexity of rhythm. It incorporates rhythmically intricate dancing and footwork.
