NCPA's Nakshatra Dance Festival is back with some of the finest choreographers of recent times.
A researcher of Natyashastra, Kalamandalam Piyal Bhattacharya, for the last 15 years, has been working on the practical reconstruction of Bharata's dance and music tradition of Natyashastraic period. The musical instruments used for this performance have been researched and are reconstructed ancient instruments such as a form of mridanga, dardur, kacchapiveena and alinga. After the instruments were recreated, the music by means of them was composed. Similarly, the costumes and ornaments worn have been researched on and reconstructed to be used for the performance. This performance has been conceptualized after two decades of research by Bhattacharya. He has been presenting a range of spectacular shows woven around the ancient forms of music, dance and drama as mentioned in Natyashastra.
