The Sikandra Gharana has an overwhelming historic legacy, with the singers participating in various musical events at the Dargah of the Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia as court singers. They are known to perform Qawaali which was written by the famous poet Amir Khusro himself in honor of Hazrat Nizamuddin. Late Ustad Mehmood Nizami was one of the finest singers this Gharana has produced, which earned him the accolade of `Sultan Ragi` from the first president of independent India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Such is the grandeur and magnificence of this Gharana that its singers achieved heights of musical accomplishments taking forward the legacy to even greater heights. Late Ustad Ghulam Farid Nizami, another impeccably talented Sufi singer hailing from this gharana took it on his stride to take Indian culture and tradition to a wider audience through Qawaali, Shayaris, poems, Ghazals, and Bhajans.
