About The Event
Parai Jamming is a hands on exploration of Paraiattam its rhythms, stories, movements, and the people who keep this art form alive.
Participants will learn the basics of playing the Parai, explore its rhythms and performance traditions, and experience the movement and energy of Paraiattam. The session also looks beyond the instrument to understand the stories carried by the Parai and the lived experiences of Parai artists - their journeys, struggles, identities, and relationship with the art form.
The session brings together rhythm, movement, history, storytelling, and lived experience, offering participants a deeper understanding of Paraiattam while learning to play and jam with the Parai themselves.
