Parikrama is a riveting work of dance choreography based on the concept of ‘Five Elements Or ‘Panchatatva’ – the five fundamental elements. It explores the interplay of the five elements with the Soul (Atman) through the cycle of human birth and death.
The Atman seeks communion with the body. It sifts through ether, wind, fire, water – finally descending upon the placid earth and entering the human body. Birth thus takes place with the union of body and soul……..Later, a desire for liberation gradually awakens in the Atman. It begins its intense & formidable journey towards its goal of ‘Nirvana’ from the five senses.
The Atman thus makes a full ‘Parikrama’ of the cycle of birth and death, achieving Moksha by merging into the supreme light of consciousness.
The production is deeply inspired by Padma Purana. It is a choreographic master piece based on the martial art of Kalaripayatu and the Mayurbhanj style of Chhau dance.
