
Essentially a form of romantic poetry, ghazal conveys emotions as no other form can. The format of ghazal lends itself to being composed of music and presented as a song. Due to its potential to evoke myriad shades of human emotions, the genre is immensely popular with artists and audiences alike.
Javed Ali has trained with his father Hamid Hussain, a well-known qawwali singer, and Ghulam Ali, the legendary ghazal maestro. In the short span of his career, he has had the privilege of working with eminent music directors and has performed for numerous films in several languages. Besides film music, Javed is known for his command over the idiom of the ghazal.
His presentation will include some evergreen ghazal spanned by great poets and immortalized by legendary singers like Talat Mehmood, Mehdi Hasan, Ghulam Ali, Farida Khanum, and Jagjit Singh. Some of these ghazals have also been featured in Hindi films.
