Let’s take the famous analogy of a Lotus growing from murky waters. Stagnation of ideas, competition, imbalance in giving and taking, lack of ease/disease in many levels of health, and lack of clarity are all part of the scenery. Experience of living gets difficult and ‘nirvana,’ ‘liberation,’ ‘moksha’ are all sought after. Thievery, hacking, gluttony…7 or 8 cardinal sins are natural consequences. That’s why the ancients discovered the 8-fold path alongside the philosophy of Advaitha-based Sanatana dharma or timeless wisdom of healthy, wealthy, wise living alongside a practice called yoga. Unfortunately, people forgot the art of sufficient cleaning somewhere along the line of figuring out how to keep the maximum number of people alive from the wars, natural calamities and diseases that arose. They didn’t have to think about ‘just enough’ while looting natural resources in meeting survival and existential concerns. We, eventually, forgot how to clean and why to clean the wise way. Wisdom or the wisening over time into time-sustainable know-hows went out of memory because the ‘why they were invented’ went out of memory. Landfills and environmental pollution is a visible evidence of it. Diseases, most of which are lifestyle diseases if not hereditary, are bodily proof of essential basics going out of vogue. That’s why Warmup To Basics. It is a set of 8 classes over 1-month periods through the year during which we cover interesting details of harmonious living not covered otherwise.


Necessity being the mother of all inventions, every new beginning has a right causative factor, time and space to begin and take shape, like Chandrayaan-3 happened now, couldn’t before. Similarly, the inquiry into Basics took a pandemic and several historically unprecedented movements to come into a Program format. It’s still a work in progress, but it’s when the rubber meets the road that feedback yields iterative improvement. After all, #humanityacrossboundaries, which is the objective of these classes, requires community participation coz “it takes a village to grow a baby,” you see? Earth is proof that doing the right things has us have a home the likes of which is still not found in the big wide universe after eons of space exploration.
