About The Event
Kathak dancers Debashree Bhattacharya and Sohini Debnath join vocalist Debapriya Adhikary and sitarist Samanwaya Sarkar in an evocative dialogue of music and movement, journeying through memory, fear and rhythm.
Presented through three distinct segments, the production explores layered human experiences through evocative choreography, live music, and expressive storytelling. Manmohini pays tribute to the courtesans of India, celebrating their enduring contribution to the country’s artistic and cultural legacy, and their unwavering devotion to music, dance, and creative freedom despite social marginalisation.
Bhoy (Fear) reflects the emotional landscapes of uncertainty, emptiness, confusion, and vulnerability, tracing how fear shapes human existence while moving towards acceptance and resilience through rhythm and movement.
The concluding segments, 5 and Half, investigate the possibilities of movement and musicality within an unconventional five-and-a-half beat cycle, creating an energetic and immersive interplay between classical structure and experimentation.
Blending intricate rhythms, expressive movement, and live musical dialogue, the work creates a deeply immersive experience where music and dance evolve together as equal storytellers.
