Experience an enchanting evening of ghazal as vocalist Shivani Vaswani, joined by storyteller Mujtaba Khan and an accomplished ensemble, honors the legendary women who shaped the genre.
Trailblazing female voices have given ghazal some of its most memorable expressions, carrying its poetry from the intimacy of mehfils to the grandeur of the concert stage.
‘Reverence’ pays homage to the women who transformed the genre, from Begum Akhtar, Farida Khanum, Iqbal Bano, and Noor Jehan to Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, and many others. Curated and performed by vocalist Shivani Vaswani, who is deeply rooted in the world of ghazal, the evening revisits their timeless compositions in her own andaaz while celebrating the grace, tehzeeb, and emotional depth that defined their artistry.
The performance is enriched by Urdu author and storyteller Mujtaba Khan, whose narration brings poetic and cultural context to the music. Supported by Rahul Wadhwani on keys and music arrangement, Ashish Jha on tabla, Arshad Khan on esraj, Utkarsh Srivastav on guitar, and Satyajeet Sanju on harmonium, ‘Reverence’ celebrates the women whose voices helped shape the ghazal tradition.
Through Shivani Vaswani’s expressive interpretations and Mujtaba Khan’s evocative storytelling, their music is revisited not as a memory preserved in time but as a living artistic legacy that continues to resonate across generations.
