C Ashwath (Channarayapatna Ashwath), Karnataka's household name and much-beloved composer-singer, was a musical legend whose works spanned theatre, cinema, live performances and studio recordings.
His compositions, based on the poetry of KS Narasimhaswamy and Kannada mystic Shishunala Sharif, inspired filmmaker TS Nagabharana to make the award-winning films - 'Mysooru Mallige' and 'Santa Sishunala Sharifa'.
Many stage plays too, for which Ashwath composed the music, went on to become feature films, including 'Kakanakote' and 'Nagamandala'. He recorded over 75 albums in his colourful career, many of which were based on the works of famous Kannada poets.
Ashwath & troupe's live performance, 'Kannadave Sathya', at the Bengaluru Palace Grounds on 23rd April 2005, pulled in a crowd of over one lakh people.
His admirer and devotee Ramachandra Hadpad, along with his group, is paying tribute to the legend through this concert on 29th December, which is Ashwath's birthday, as also the day of his death (29th Dec 1939 - 29th Dec 2009).
