Between darkness and light, joy and sadness, confusion and clarity, creation and destruction, beginning and ending, lies a moment of nothingness.
A point of no separation.
A stillness of existence, bereft of all that contains the all.
An all that is nothing.
A nothingness that binds and unifies all things living into one infinite rhythm.
More a seeking than a presentation, Shunya is an attempt by the dancers and choreographer to find that point of unification and nothingness, to take the audience into a journey of understanding existence.
The piece will be visual with both recorded and live percussion. In addition, the dancers too will often serve as musician, vocalist and dancer adding to the performance. Allowing lines to blur, accentuating the concept of zero and no identity.
Sound and movement style will be intrinsically universal with a clear ethnic origin.
The theatrical-scape will be expanded through the use of projection, stage props and costumes that will oscillate between maximum and minimum to highlight the concept of Zero through not just sound and movement, but visual impact as well.
