Symphony of Bansuri reimagines the rich musical heritage of India with fearless innovation. After premiering to resounding acclaim with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra in August 2025, Rakesh Chaurasia’s visionary production is now ready to captivate Mumbai audiences with its emotional depth and sonic brilliance. A child prodigy turned international virtuoso, Chaurasia is one of the world’s finest exponents of the bansuri, who has carried the bamboo flute to global acclaim. Shaped by rigorous vocal study, boundless curiosity, and a lineage rooted in mentorship from his legendary uncle, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, his artistry is as enchanting as haunting, and profoundly moving.
At the heart of Symphony of Bansuri is an orchestral reinvention of Indian classical ragas, folk melodies, film compositions, and light classical works, all unified by the bansuri as the central voice. The performance unfolds in two parts—beginning with an intimate exploration of pure Indian classical music for bansuri and tabla, and culminating in a grand symphonic expression featuring orchestra, piano, tabla, and drums. Each piece reveals the bansuri not merely as an instrument, but as a complete, versatile storyteller.
With compositions by Chaurasia alongside Sangeet Haldipur and Luca Russo, arrangements by Sangeet Haldipur, and masterful orchestration by Marvin Bourne, the production is further enhanced by conductor Damian Philander and world-class musicians including Satyajit Talwalkar on tabla, Gino Banks on drums, and Sangeet Haldipur on piano and music direction. With conceptualisation and executive production by Inner Circle Entertainment, this concert invites audiences to witness the confluence of Indian and Western musical traditions coming together in a radiant symphony.
