Western Melodies of Tagore
A Choral Group Presentation Performing Groups – Shahana Shilpi Sangha & Santa Cruz Ensemble
Tagore was influenced by melodies from across the world, specifically Irish and Scottish tunes, which have been presented innumerable times with different permutations and combinations of their original versions. The “Western Melodies” concert is a bouquet of such songs of Tagore paired with renditions of their original Western melodies. The original songs will be sung by the Western music choir while Shahana singers perform the Tagore compositions. The entire presentation lends itself to the choir format, creating a vibrant and energetic experience.
Zikr – A Sufi Samaa
Lead Performers Soumya Murshidabadi – The Voice of Emotion and Devotion
Martin Dubois – Carrying the ancient spirit of West Africa through the Kora
This is a bespoke musical curation that unites Sufi poetics with the rare, luminous timbre of the kora—an experience crafted exclusively for the most discerning of audiences. In the mystical tradition of Sufism, Zikr means remembrance of the eternal truth that resides within. This concert invites the audience to return to inner stillness through a deeply immersive musical journey. At the heart of this performance lies the spiritual resonance of three timeless poets: Kabir, Gorakhnath, and Hazrat Amir Khusrow.
