The Dam Jawn is a band consisting of five musicians from the Amsterdam Jazz scene who metthrough a shared experience in the United States. They found their collective voice by composing and arranging their own original music inspired by the jazz scene from the city of Philadelphia.
Although all five live and are active in Amsterdam, the Quintet is very international. Martín Díaz (altosax) and Joan Fort (guitar) were born in Barcelona, Spain. Philip Lewin (bass) in Stuttgart, Germanyand Nitin Parree (drums) as well as Frank Groenendijk (tenor saxophone) are from the Netherlands.
Their debut album features legendary alto saxophonist Dick Oatts, who also guided them through the process of writing, arranging and rehearsing their own music. The Dam Jawn have come together and shaped their own sound, inspired by the energy and feeling of today’s Philadelphia Jazz scene, as well as its rich musical past.
