The Fretternity was born in 2025, when founders Mark Silgardo and RJT—seasoned musicians with a history of performing both independently and together—came together to create something distinctive. The opportunity arose when a friend invited Mark to curate a performance at a community space, sparking the idea to craft a set built around songs that had deeply influenced them over the years.
Drawing from the legendary catalogues of iconic singer-songwriters from the 60s, 70s, and 80s—Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Graham Nash, Johnny Cash, among others—The Fretternity pays homage to timeless music that continues to resonate across generations.
Since its inception, the band has performed to packed audiences in Bangalore and beyond, earning a reputation for thoughtfully curated shows. Each song is selected not only for its musical brilliance but also for the depth of its narrative and message. True to this philosophy, every performance weaves in context and storytelling, making the introduction as compelling as the rendition itself.
Mark and RJT’s vocals are elevated by a stellar ensemble: Kurian on keys, Shanks on percussion, and Arun on violin, each bringing rich texture and depth to the sound. For special performances like The Quad, the lineup expands to include talented guest artists—Nisha on vocals, along with Erica and Taro on bass—adding fresh energy and dimension to the experience.
