About The Event
The Jazz Masters
Listening Session conducted by Sunil Sampat
Jazz Mystique
Jazz is the ultimate sound of surprise. When a musician steps up to the microphone, either in a recording studio or in front of an audience, their challenge is to produce musical notes that suit the moment, rather than a written script. That moment becomes sacrosanct in playing jazz. It also becomes an exciting moment for the listener.
Sunil Sampat has picked out some dramatic recordings from jazz archives for the session. The mystique of jazz will unravel in some of the most surprising ways for the listener.
"No two days in life are the same. Why should I sing a song in the same way twice?" asked the great jazz vocalist Billie Holiday. That exemplifies the essence of jazz. Individual freedom and personal expression are the focus here. Holiday will be among the jazz stars and superstars featured at the session.
