About The Event

Indian ragas and Irish reels come together in a compelling cross-cultural concert featuring Utsav Lal, Winifred Horan, Sam Comerford and Zuheb Ahmed Khan.

‘Utsav Lal's Ragas to Reels’ is the acclaimed Indo-Irish project of Indian pianist and composer Utsav Lal, internationally recognised for reimagining Hindustani classical music on the piano while forging compelling musical dialogues across traditions. Lal is joined by two of Ireland’s foremost traditional musicians, legendary fiddler Winifred Horan and acclaimed flautist and saxophonist Sam Comerford, alongside tabla virtuoso Zuheb Ahmed Khan.

Drawing on both historical and imagined connections between Irish and Hindustani music, the performance conjures a rich sonic landscape where sean-nós airs dissolve into alap, harp songs converse with thumri and chhands, and reels and jigs ignite into tarana and jhala. Bringing together traditional repertoire and original compositions, it is a virtuosic, spontaneous and deeply moving performance.

Presented as part of the Ragas to Reels India Tour 2026 – supported by Culture Ireland and the Consulate General of Ireland, Mumbai – the ensemble performs in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Bengaluru. Over the past decade, Lal has toured evolving editions of the project across Ireland, the UK, India and the USA, at leading venues including Southbank Centre in London, Lyric Theatre in Belfast, Irish Arts Center in New York and The Barns at Wolf Trap in Washington, DC. Don’t miss this celebration of two ancient traditions reimagined for the global stage!
