About The Event
Uttar Dakshin
North meets South. Sitar meets Veena.
On 31 October, Godavari Hall presents Uttar Dakshin, a jugalbandi between two masters of Indian classical music. Pandit Shubhendra Rao brings the sitar and the Hindustani North. Vidwan Rajhesh Vaidhya answers on the veena, carrying the Carnatic South. Both have played on the world's great stages. Here they play to each other.
Unrehearsed Spontaneity
There is no script and no rehearsed set. Two masters listen, respond, challenge, and lift one another in real time. What you hear on 31 October will never be played the same way again.
The Rarest Pairing
The sitar and the veena are the two great plucked-string instruments of India, and each tradition treats its instrument differently. The sitar unfolds a raga slowly and with space. The veena answers with gamaka and rhythmic brilliance. The two are seldom heard together on one stage, and when they meet, every raga becomes a conversation between two traditions.
A Masterclass in Live Art
Spontaneous composition, intricate layakari, and phrases traded at speed across the stage. This is not music to have on in the background. It asks for your full attention, and rewards it.
