About The Event
Rediscover Shirish Kanekar’s inimitable wit in a Marathi recital featuring memorable selections from his writings and stage works, alongside lesser-known stories from his life.
Writer, journalist and one of India's earliest stand-up comedians, Shirish Kanekar transformed everyday observations on cinema, cricket, music and life into an unmistakable brand of humour. With nearly 50 books, widely read newspaper columns and celebrated one-man shows including Majhi Fillambaji, Phatkebaji and Kanekari, he became one of Maharashtra's most beloved literary and stage voices, earning admirers across India and beyond.
Conceptualised and curated by Prasad Phanse, this Marathi recital brings Kanekar's razor-sharp wit to the stage through memorable excerpts from his writing and performances, interwoven with lesser-known stories and delightful anecdotes from his life. Offering an affectionate glimpse into the man behind the words, the evening celebrates the distinctive humour and observational brilliance that came to be known simply as Kanekari.
