Celebrate Pankaj Udhas’ 75th birth anniversary with a soulful opening tribute at ‘Shayarana: The Ghazal Experience’, a two-day festival dedicated to the timeless beauty of ghazals, poetry and melody.
The opening evening of Shayarana: The Ghazal Experience pays a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Pankaj Udhas on his 75th birth anniversary, an artist who brought the ghazal into countless Indian homes with warmth, grace, and deep emotional resonance. Through songs of love, longing, separation, and introspection, he created a timeless musical language that made poetry feel intimate, accessible, and deeply personal across generations.
Conceptualised and designed by singer and music director Sudeep Banerji, this specially curated tribute unfolds as a musical journey through the life, poetry, and enduring influence of Pankaj Udhas. With vocals by Banerji alongside fellow musical stalwarts Aabhas Joshi, Hetvi Sethia, and Prajakta Sarvarkar Shinde, the concert revisits beloved classics like ‘Chitthi Aayi Hai’, ‘Aur Ahista’,
and ‘Na Kajre Ki Dhar’, as well as lesser-known gems that reveal the depth of his legacy.
With nuanced vocal interpretations, warm lighting, and a minimal stage design, the evening brings the ghazal’s intricate interplay of sher, ehsaas, and sur to the fore. As the first chapter of this two-day festival, the tribute sets the tone for ‘Shayarana’, a celebration of poetry, melody, and emotion in honour of a legacy that continues to resonate across generations.
