About The Event
Crraft Of Art is an initiative focused on reintroducing monuments to the people, especially the younger generation. It addresses creatively, a worrying disconnect and receding interest among the general public and youth toward our monuments and heritage.
For the past 13 years, in 27 Music Festivals, Crraft Of Art has taken the monuments to people, so to speak, through a rich blend of quality thematic music and display of the monument’s innate craftsmanship, beauty, and splendour. The special effort is in unearthing the monument’s glory, presenting it to people in a form that makes it richer in content and appeal, and blending it with music that makes the message special and relevant.
This year, Crraft of art has the privilege to bring to you Water Festival from a monument we are working with for the second time. Rani Ki Vav, Patan, Gujarat.
One of the signs of Patan's former glory is this astoundingly beautiful step-well. Located on the banks of the Saraswati River, this is one of the oldest and finest step-wells in Gujarat and is remarkably preserved. Steps lead down through multiple levels with lines of carved pillars and more than 800 sculptures, mostly on Vishnu-avatar themes, as well as striking geometric patterns. The stepwell is made in the form of an inverted temple. It showcases the superior craftsmanship of the era, and the unique Maru-Gurjara architectural style and houses sculptures similar to the Vimalavasahi temple in Mount Abu and the Sun temple at Modhera.
The stepwell has been listed as one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites since 2014.
