About The Event
Kashmiri artist Yawar Abdal brings the timeless verses of Mahjoor, Mirza Ghalib, and Amir Khusrow into a stirring musical conversation, reimagined through his distinctive style.
Spiritual poetry takes center stage in a beautiful confluence of Kashmiri, Persian, Urdu, and Sufi folk traditions, as ‘Yawar Abdal Live’ gives centuries-old verses a unique contemporary voice with ambient textures, progressive rock, soulful instrumentation, and evocative vocals.
At the heart of this performance is Yawar Abdal, whose music inhabits the meeting point of poetry, sound, and visual storytelling. Drawing on the melodies and literary traditions of his Srinagar upbringing, he brings the works of Mahjoor, Mirza Ghalib, and Amir Khusrow into conversation with his own words and compositions. His acclaimed projects Tamanna, Aabad, and Soz reflect an instinct to carry these influences forward while preserving their emotional depth.
Joined by Akash Gupta on drums and percussion, Manash Saikia on bass guitar, Vicky Hajeri on electric guitar, Shardul Bapat on violin, and guest artist Vvan Khan on sarangi, Yawar and his ensemble transform the stage into a space for reflection and connection as familiar words find new musical expression.
