Anya Taylor-Joy is an Argentine-British actress and model, popularly known for her performance in the limited series The Queen`s Gambit. She has won several accolades, including a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award, in addition to nominations for a BAFTA Film Award and a Primetime Emmy Award.
Early Life
Born on 16th April 1996 in Florida, USA, Taylor-Joy is the youngest of six siblings. Her father raced powerboats while her mother worked in interior design and photography. Her family moved to Argentina when she was an infant and she grew up learning Spanish. She moved to London at the age of six, however, the actress later fell ill and was eventually home-schooled.
TV CareerTaylor-Joy appeared in one of the episodes - `Nocturne` - of the TV series Endeavor in 2014. In the same year, she also was part of the TV movie Viking Quest. The next year she starred as a recurring character in the TV series Atlantis.
Movie CareerTaylor-Joy made her screen debut in 2014 with the fantasy comedy film Vampire Academy but her role in the movie went uncredited. However, later she happened to meet the actor Allen Leech at an audition and she was signed by his agency. This led her to star in her first lead role in
Robert Eggers` directorial debut The Witch (2015). Grossing $40 million against the meager production budget of $3 million, her performance was highly praised and bagged several awards like the Breakthrough Artist Award at the Austin Film Critics Association Awards.
She then starred in another horror film, Morgan which received mixed to negative reviews. In 2016, she next appeared in the drama movie Barry, based on Barack Obama`s life at Columbia University. In the same year, she also appeared in
M. Night Shyamalan`s psychological thriller
Split. In 2017, Taylor-Joy starred in Thoroughbred which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Her indelible performance in Drama webseries The Queen`s Gambit (2020) made her global phenomenon.

She got married to American musician Malcolm McRae, frontman of the rock band More, in a secret ceremony on 1 April 2022 in New Orleans. They held a public wedding at the Palazzo Pisani Moretta in Venice, Italy in 2023.
