While pursuing an MSc in Psychology from Madras University in the early 2000`s, C. V. Kumar enrolled at at Arena Multimedia in Madurai. By 2005, Kumar was well-versed with animation, sound design, and branding, while he additionally also took scriptwriting classes. Hoping to produce good content-driven movies, Kumar started his own production house in 2010, calling it Thirukumaran Entertainment. His first project as a producer was the Attakathi, which was directed by the then newcomer Pa Ranjit. The movie was received with positive reviews and was a hit. He next produced the critically and commercially successful movie Pizza, which was, yet again, directed by debutant director Karthik Subbaraj. In order to promote the movie differently, Kumar launched promotions on social media, which garnered a lot of the audience`s attention. The big-budget movie was declared a hit and went on to win several awards at the 7th Vijay Awards and the 2nd South Indian International Movie Awards. After giving the industry back-to-back hits such as Soodhu Kavvum, Thegidi, Mundaasupatti, Indru Netru Naalai, Irudhi Suttru, and Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum, Kumar made his directorial debut in 2016 with the movie Mayavan, a Tamil sci-fi thriller, featuring Sundeep Kishan and Lavanya Tripathi in lead roles. In 2017, the Telugu remake of Maayavan was released titled Project Z. His 2019 release includes Gangs Of Madras.
