Juan Antonio Garcia Bayona is a Spanish director who began his career with directing commercials and music videos. He was honoured with the Premios Ondas award for the music video Tu sigue asi at the age of 20, while he was working with the band OBK. He was then offered the script of The Orphanage by Sergio G. Sanchez which fetched him the Goya Award for Best New Director in 2008. He was assisted by Guillermo del Toro of Shape Of Water fame, during the movie. His film The Impossible, received nominations in 14 categories of the Goya Awards and won five of them. Bayona has directed two episodes of Penny Dreadful and is associated with popular films like My Holidays (1999, short), The Spongeman (2002, short), The Orphanage (2007), The Impossible (2012), A Monster Calls (2016) before he lent his talent to Marrowbone. His other releases include Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
