Synopsis of the play:
Jis Lahore Nai vekhya O jamya hi Nai Synopsis Written by Asghar Wajahat Directed by Tanushree Rana & Mihika Rohilla Genre: Historical Drama, Partition Literature, Social Satire, Tragedy, Realism, Humanist Drama, Communal Harmony, Memory Memesis, the Theatre Society of Daulat Ram College, proudly brings to stage one of the most stirring narratives of the Partition era, Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya O Jamya Nai. Set in the heart of Lahore, the play opens with the arrival of a Muslim refugee family into an abandoned haveli. But the haveli is not truly empty, it shelters the unyielding spirit of an old Hindu woman who refuses to leave her home. What begins as a struggle for space slowly unfolds into a confrontation of identities, memories, and histories. Through biting wit, irony, and heartfelt emotion, Asghar Wajahat’s writing captures the absurdity of borders that divide hearts, and the haunting aftermath of displacement. It is not just a play about communal conflict, it is a play about humanity’s stubborn hope to belong, to love, and to heal. Memesis reimagines this timeless classic with a fresh vision where satire meets tragedy, and every silence carries the echoes of a fractured past. The performance dares to ask: In a world torn by lines of religion and nation, can compassion still win? Memesis chooses to stage this classic not just to look back at history, but to hold a mirror to our present. The scars of Partition may belong to the past, yet its echoes—of migration, identity, and division—still resonate in today’s world. By revisiting this tale, we hope to remind our audiences that beyond religion, beyond borders, it is compassion and shared humanity that truly bind us together. With a blend of humor, pain, and resilience, Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya O Jamya Nai becomes more than a story, it becomes a mirror, reminding us that in the end, humanity is the only home we share. “Beyond borders, beyond religion - this is the story of hearts that refuse to divide
