Considered a milestone in Marathi theatre, 'Charchaughi’ is a story of a mother and her three daughters, ordinary at a glimpse - yet anything but. In this progressive theatrical set in Pune city of the ‘90s, each woman is on her way to shake up the status quo of a patriarchal society and chart their own course in life and love, driven by grit and independent thinking.
Written by Prashant Dalvi and directed by Chandrakant Kulkarni, the critically acclaimed piece created history for its ground-breaking narrative, and powerful voices and performances. After three decades, the issues it examines and upholds unfortunately remain just as relevant, as similar obstacles continue to plague women. Though personal, these decisions taken by the four protagonists represent the emotions of women at large, throwing light on the gendered ways of the society and on man-woman relationships.
Produced by Jigisha and presented by an all-new cast starring powerhouses like Mukta Barve, Rohini Hattangadi, Kadambari Kadam, Parna Pethe and others, ‘Charchaughi’ is back with more food for thought and greater urgency – unfolding as a dramatically and acoustically rich experience at The Grand Theatre.
