Dashavatar is a powerful cultural theatre experience that brings to life the timeless Konkan Dashavatari folk theatre tradition, one of Maharashtra’s oldest and most revered performing art forms.
Rooted in mythology, music, dance, and dramatic storytelling, Dashavatar narrates the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu through vibrant costumes, live percussion, soulful vocals, and expressive performance. Once a thriving tradition in rural Konkan, Dashavatari theatre today stands at the risk of fading away due to the lack of platforms and exposure.
This initiative is a sincere effort to revive, preserve, and celebrate this endangered folk art, presenting it on a grand urban stage for today’s audiences. Dashavatar aims to bridge generations—connecting modern viewers with a rich cultural heritage that has been passed down through centuries.
The production features the renowned Khanolkar Dashavatar Mandal, a traditional performing troupe travelling from Konkan, celebrated for their authenticity and mastery of the art form. Led by the legendary Dashavatar actor Natsamrat Pappu Nandoskar, the ensemble delivers a performance that is both spiritually immersive and theatrically compelling.
Curated under the banner of Mahesh V. Manjrekar, in association with Adwait Theatre, Nityasya Productions, and Sarvasya Productions, this event is not just a performance it is a cultural movement.
Dashavatar invites audiences to witness living heritage, support traditional artists, and experience Maharashtra’s cultural soul in its purest form.
