Delhi 1946 is set in Delhi in the year 1946.
This play brings alive the elegance of Urdu poetry, the richness of Urdu literature, and fascinating anecdotes of celebrated poets, woven together with original recorded music from films of the 1940s, immersing you in the sound and soul of that era.
The story begins with a light-hearted moment—within a family, a neighborhood, and a college—and gradually unfolds into growing tensions among friends, reflecting the changing times. At its heart is a powerful conflict within a family—a father who believes in a united Hindustan, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, and a son who believes in Jinnah’s idea of Pakistan. Their ideological clash mirrors the larger divide of the time, leading to an outcome revealed only at the end of the play.
The play has already had multiple successful shows and has received excellent reviews from critics and the media. After a long gap, it is now returning to Mumbai with a talented ensemble of remarkable actors.
