About The Event
Dharti Aba is a powerful and stirring theatrical production that brings to life the extraordinary journey of tribal icon Birsa Munda and his fearless movement, Ulgulan – a rebellion against British colonial rule and deep-rooted social injustice.
Set in the late 19th century (circa 1895–1900), during a time of growing discontent among India’s tribal communities, the play chronicles Birsa’s rise from a humble tribal boy in the Chotanagpur region to a visionary leader and revolutionary. Defying British missionaries, questioning religious orthodoxy, and rejecting the injustices of feudal landlords and colonial administrators, Birsa dreamed of a society built on equality, self-respect, and freedom.
He founded a new faith rooted in tribal traditions and collective strength, urging his people to reclaim their land, identity, and dignity. Birsa united the Munda tribe and led the Ulgulan (The Great Tumult) – a socio-political and spiritual uprising that shook the foundations of British authority in Eastern India. Though he was captured and died in jail at the young age of 25 in 1900, his legacy continued to inspire India's freedom struggle for generations.
Can one man become a god for his people?
Can the son of the soil rise as a hero for an entire nation?
Come witness Dharti Aba—a theatrical experience that redefines history and stirs the soul.
