When a newly appointed minister is told that writers, actors, singers and theatre-makers are becoming "too independent," the country's sharpest bureaucrats hatch a solution so absurd that it almost sounds plausible.
What follows is a delirious rollercoaster of razor-sharp satire, outrageous wordplay, political parody, bureaucratic absurdity and relentless laughter. Cabinet meetings become farce. Legendary celebrities are hilariously reimagined. Bureaucracy collides with art. Every file note hides a punchline. Every policy creates a bigger problem than the last.

Didi IAS has been written by Mrinal Mathur, one of India's most prolific contemporary playwrights, with an oeuvre of original plays that has travelled to audiences across India and overseas. His writing spans comedy, satire, historical drama and experimental theatre, united by a fascination with ideas rather than ideologies. Refusing easy binaries, his plays invite audiences to question received wisdom, examine competing narratives and discover their own truths. It has been directed by Zafer Mohiuddin, a veteran theatre director, actor, playwright, and translator who has shaped Bengaluru's Hindi and Urdu theatre landscape for over four decades. Founder of Kathputliyaan Theatre Group, he is renowned for staging literary classics and original works with disciplined performances, artistic integrity and an enduring commitment to meaningful, accessible theatre.
