Division Street is a highly entertaining play; it will probably be one of the craziest, maddest plays you will ever see!!! - Full of laughs, interesting colourful characters, and an engaging plot, that gave us a glimpse of the nature of political movements. The way they emerge from ordinary people grasping at aspirations and dreams, so necessary to enable them to fight their way out of the morass of ordinariness, and the excitement and thrill of coming together to make a difference.
Krish, a former political activist, comes to Chennai to start his career as a journalist. Retired from his radical life, the young man tries to get work and is trying to forget his past life which was disastrous to say the least. Unfortunately, he is photographed by the local press retching on the street after eating stuffed mutton ball curry at the Bangla Grill and Bar, owned by an immigrant from a `neighbouring' country, Md. Yohan, whose wife has died without leaving behind the recipes. Yohan demands an `applelogy' from Krish for having given his eating place a bad name. This is just the start of Krish’s woes - Slowly through the play Krish’s life is invaded by ex-comrades and friends all who have come to rejuvenate and restart the protests and marches, and start the people's movement all over again – Krish is horrified – but has no control over the events that transpire.
The play comprises of eight colourful whacky loveable characters who the audiences have never met before – the highly amusing situations they find themselves in makes for an evening of laughter.
