Experience an ode to sisterhood, motherhood and survival, shaped by writer Dwight Watson, adaptor-director Kaizaad Kotwal and director Mahabanoo Mody-Kotwal against the turbulent years that gave birth to India.
Set in 1940s Bengal along the banks of the Hooghly River, Eden Creek, Bengal unfolds against the backdrop of the Great Bengal Famine and the final years of India’s freedom struggle.
Written by Dwight Watson, adapted by Kaizaad Kotwal, and directed by Kaizaad Kotwal and Mahabanoo Mody-Kotwal, the play follows five women whose lives are bound by history, memory and survival. From the spirited Natalia and Zahabia to the wise Doctor Ganguly, the ageing Maria and the young Piroja, each story reflects a different facet of resilience and motherhood.
Guided by the Guardian of Eden Creek, both narrator and spirit of the place, the production weaves these lives into a deeply emotional theatrical tapestry. Featuring performances by Devaki, Heeba Shah, Rhea Amin, Avantika Akerkar, Kathryn Doshi and Mahabanoo Mody-Kotwal, the play becomes a tribute to womanhood, sisterhood and endurance.
Intimate yet expansive, this show revisits a chapter of history rarely explored on stage through the voices of women who endure, remember and rise.
