
Marathi Musical Plays are well known. They are one of the earlier forms of theatre, that still attracts the audience. One such musical play is ‘Ekach Pyala’ written by Ram Ganesh Gadkari ( Bhashaprabhu of Marathi Theatre). It is one of the most popular plays and Its popularity can be gauged from the fact that it was written 100 years ago and is still being staged.
The play depicts the pathetic decline one has due to alcohol addiction. The hero Sudhakar when facing a critical situation is initiated into drinking by the evil and alcoholic Taliram. Sindhu the devoted wife of Sudhakar suffers as her husband becomes an alcoholic. The play also has humorous scenes which ultimately makes you think (introspect) the low level at which one can fall due to bad habits.
Today also, Alcoholism and other vices are prevalent in our society and there is need to create awareness of its ill-effects amongst youngsters especially. With this view, Rangsharda Pratishthan is producing this play with a young team of actors. Also celebrating the Occasion of the Play completing its 100 years ....hoping that it will be well received by the audience.
