About The Event
FUJA Haramda is a stage adaptation of Saadat Hasan Manto's well known short story. Set against the historic backdrop of old Amritsar, the play presents a realistic character sketch of Fuja. A young man labelled a rogue by society, but defined by his fearless and independent spirit. Refusing to bow down to strict schoolmasters or rigid societal norms, his everyday interactions beautifully explore the classic friction between individual freedom and institutional authority.
Beyond the life of its protagonist, the production uniquely weaves in the perspective of Manto as a writer. The narrative captures the inner world of the legendary author struggling to reconcile his honest craft with a rapidly fracturing society.
Set against the looming, tragic shadow of the Partition, the play shows how these turbulent historical circumstances deeply impacted both the local people and Manto's own iconic literary vision. True to Manto's signature style, this play is a sharp, honest observation of human nature and societal behaviour.
