'Ghashiram Kotwal, produced by the eminent theatre group Chetana, is an adaptation of the famous Marathi play of the same name written by the acclaimed playwright Vijay Tendulkar. A humorous political satire, the drama is based on Ghashiram Sawardas, the main protagonist who trades his daughter to Nana Phadnavis, one of the prominent ministers in the court of the Peshwa of Pune, in exchange for the position of Kotwal (police chief). The play highlights how people in power give rise to new ideologies and agendas and reject the same when their purpose is served. The director Sujan Mukherjee presents the entire story in the form of folk music and dance and its subtle and not-so-subtle nuances in each and every line, makes one smile throughout and laugh heartily ever so often.'
