About The Event
The ghost of the King of Denmark tells his son Hamlet to avenge his murder by killing the new king, Hamlet's uncle. Hamlet feigns madness, contemplates life and death, and seeks revenge. His uncle, fearing for his life, also devises plots to kill Hamlet.
Why this Hamlet?
Hamlet is a longish play that needs several hours to complete the playing time. It is really a challenge to stage this world classic of all time on the stage in its entirety. Saif Ansari's production runs for about two hours.
Its greatness lies in its universality. Every generation discovers in the play its own contradictions. It is a political play, a family drama, senseless bloodshed to grab state power, and ruthless suppression of dissent to retain power.
