About The Event
Har Marz Ki Dawa is an adaptation of Molière’s classic comedy, The Doctor in Spite of Himself, which satirises deception and social folly. The story revolves around Gullu (Gulshan), a drunken barber whose vengeful wife, Minoo, tricks everyone into believing that he is a brilliant doctor with magical healing powers. Meanwhile, young Roopwati feigns muteness to escape an unwanted marriage arranged by her father, Seth Gandamal, as her heart belongs to Sajju.
Dragged into the role of a physician, Gullu manages to win over the household using absurdity and gibberish jargon. Ultimately, he cleverly uses his newfound authority to help the young lovers unite. Once the misunderstandings are resolved, Roopwati miraculously “regains” her voice, Seth Gandamal gives his consent to the marriage, and the play ends by highlighting the absurdity of blind trust in status and authority.
