Hedda Gabler dramatizes the experiences of Hedda, the daughter of a general, who is trapped in a marriage and a house that she does not want. The ennui of domestic life and constraints by social norms lead Hedda to seek power and control over those around her. The play reveals the destructive effects of repression, patriarchy, and the lack of freedom afforded to women.
