After many earlier plays on Socrates, one reason for presenting this character again on stage is that any person, subject or work that contains something eternal must be continually reinterpreted in new ways to keep it alive. The relevance of Socrates—embodying issues such as morality, character, freedom of speech, fearlessness, and self-examination—has not diminished even after two and a half thousand years. His insistence on and guidance in critical thinking proves indispensable today in various fields starting from school education and scientific research to political understanding. The special feature of this new play is that, beyond presenting a complete portrait of Socrates, we have attempted to shed new light on the reality of his death, while also highlighting the parallels between Socratic thought and Indian philosophy.
