About The Event
Iluh Tana – Tana / Mother's Tears
Through the figure of Tana, this work portrays the earth as a wounded mother. Tana is not merely a symbol. She has a body. She has memories. She experiences pain. She is a mother who continues to give, even as her body begins to deteriorate.
The soil is dry, there is no water, no rain. The earth loses its balance, and humans become ill. Erpangir Kulau is performed—a ritual of self-purification from the filth of greed, cleansing humans and their thoughts so that the earth may regain its balance.
Iluh Tana—a mother’s tears become a remedy for humanity’s journey to remember the lost connection. This journey is not about humans saving the earth. Rather, it is about humans realizing that they must return to being part of the earth.
