Aakhri Shama is based on Dilli Ka Yaadgar Mushaira by Farhatullah Baig.
Set in 1857, the play recreates the grandeur and poignancy of the last poetic symposium held under the Mughal court’s patronage at the Red Fort.
As Delhi descends into turmoil, one man — Maulvi Karimuddin — strives to keep alive the tradition of the royal mushaira. The poets gather for one final evening of verse, wit, and reflection, illuminated by the symbolic shama
(flame) placed before each poet as they recite.
Through its music, poetry, and historical resonance, Aakhri Shama celebrates the spirit of art and resilience even as an era comes to an end.
