About The Event
JNAPAKA CHITRASHAALE What if the life of a great literary
personality itself became a gallery of unforgettable portraits? Jnapaka
Chitrashaale brings alive the fascinating world of D V Gundappa, popularly
known as DVG, the celebrated Kannada writer, journalist, thinker and
philosopher. Best known for Mankuthimmana Kagga, DVG was a man who did not
merely write about values and principles. He lived them. His simplicity,
integrity, scholarship, humour and spirit of detachment made his life as
remarkable as his writings. The play takes us through the fascinating facets of
DVG life, his early journey as a journalist, his deep affection for the compositions
of Saint Tyagaraja, his wit and humour, his remarkable scholarship and his
uncompromising commitment to his principles. His association with Sir M
Visvesvaraya and Mirza Ismail, and his literary friendships with Te Nam Sri and
V Seetharamaiah, add colour and depth to this portrait of an extraordinary
life. The play is based on Brahmapuriya Bhikshuka by Dr Shatavadhani R Ganesh.
Though the play carries the title Jnapaka Chitrashaale, it does not recreate
the portraits drawn by DVG in his famous work. Instead, it turns the canvas
towards DVG himself. His life, memories, friendships, humour, convictions and
experiences become the portraits in this new gallery. With Dr Babu Hirannaiah
portraying DVG, Jnapaka Chitrashaale invites you to step into the world of a
remarkable man and discover the human being behind the legend. Jnapaka
Chitrashaale is a journey into the life, memories and remarkable personality of
DVG.
