About the Play: Karn – A Tale of Truth, Compassion, and Conflict
"Karn" is a powerful theatrical retelling of the untold story of one of Mahabharata’s most misunderstood characters — Karn. This thought-provoking stage production delves deep into the emotional and ethical struggles of a man born into adversity, abandoned at birth, and raised in anonymity.
Set against the backdrop of war and moral conflict, the play explores themes of identity, loyalty, compassion, and parenthood. As Karn navigates his journey through a world marked by injustice and rejection, he remains steadfast in his pursuit of truth and inner integrity, even when faced with morally ambiguous choices.
What sets this production apart is its unique all-female cast, with three talented actors—Vineeta Joshi, Farha, and Noyrika —portraying multiple roles to bring the narrative to life. The play is further elevated by the integration of traditional Indian performing arts such as Mayurbhanj Chhau, Manipuri martial arts (Thang-Ta), and Kalaripayattu, creating a visually rich and culturally immersive experience.
Directed by Kulvindar Bakshish Singh, and backed by producers Abhishek Narayan, Sampat Singh Rathore, and Singh himself, the production is a heartfelt homage to one of Indian mythology’s most complex figures. With lighting by Chetan Dhawale and music operations managed by Bhushan Bhavsar, every element of this production has been thoughtfully crafted to stir emotion and provoke reflection.
Don’t miss this evocative journey into the soul of Karn—an epic blend of drama, tradition, and timeless relevance.
