“Khamosh! Adalat Jari Hai” is a Hindi translation of the Marathi play “Shantana! Court Chalu Aahe” written by renowned playwright Vijay Tendulkar. The plot is set in true retrograde fashion, a mock trial, with a truly bona fide theme. A scintillating case of a woman ahead of her time versus an egoistic and hypocritical jury and a lawyer with an agenda. Inspired by real-life events, the story elegantly rolls out in a mise en abyme, all the while highlighting the misogyny and bigotry of crew members, who were attempting to soil the integrity of fellow colleagues and teachers.
This was one of the most groundbreaking plays in Tendulkar’s career, and we are honoured to perform this intriguing story, giving a tribute to the author by reinforcing his point of view.
