Women and kitchens share a complicated love-hate relationship. For some, the kitchen is a space of identity and ownership; for others, it is a place they navigate with carefree ease—or quietly resist.
In Kitchen Poems - Gujarati Abhivachikam, RJ Devaki joins five powerful female artists to bring the celebrated Gujarati author’s witty and insightful verses to the stage. Together they take audiences on a playful journey through their own kitchens and the women who inhabit them. Through humour, observation and storytelling, the poems reveal familiar experiences, unexpected truths and the many ways women relate to this everyday space.
An award-winning theatre artist, actor, storyteller and radio personality from Gujarat, RJ Devaki brings over three decades of theatrical experience to the performance. A recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, she is known for her powerful stage presence and her commitment to theatre as a space for cultural storytelling and meaningful social dialogue.
Directed by Aditi Desai, this Gujarati vachikam invites audiences to look at the kitchen—and the women within it—with fresh eyes.
