About The Event
Dalip Tahil defends Netaji’s INA.
History remembers the INA Trials. Politics asks whether they were the moment that changed India's destiny. This play remembers and celebrates the protagonists of this great Muqadma.
Set inside the Red Fort during the historic Indian National Army trials of 1945-46, Lal Qile Ka Aakhri Muqadma is a gripping courtroom drama that reimagines one of the greatest legal battles ever fought for India's freedom. Acclaimed actor Dalip Tahil takes centre stage as legendary barrister Bhulabhai J. Desai, whose fearless defence of Shah Nawaz Khan, Prem Kumar Sehgal and Gurbaksh Singh Dhillon transforms a military trial into a trial of the British Empire itself. With a career spanning over four decades across theatre, film and television, Dalip Tahil is among India's finest actors, bringing rare authority and gravitas to Bhulabhai J. Desai.
As Bhulabhai dismantles the prosecution with razor-sharp legal arguments, the courtroom gives way to memories of the battlefield, the rise of the Azad Hind Fauj, and the extraordinary leadership of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Through powerful performances, stirring music, and emotionally charged storytelling, the play reveals an India united across religion, language, and region in its quest for freedom.
But this is far more than a retelling of history. It challenges long-held assumptions, uncovers the surprising philosophical bond between Netaji and Mahatma Gandhi, and asks whether India's struggle was truly against the British, or against a system of colonial power that still exists today.
Part courtroom thriller, part political drama, and part tribute to the indomitable spirit of the Azad Hind Fauj, Lal Qile Ka Aakhri Muqadma is an unforgettable theatrical experience for everyone who has ever asked what it truly means to be free.
The play has been written by Mrinal Mathur, one of India's most prolific contemporary playwrights, whose acclaimed oeuvre of original plays has travelled across India and overseas, inviting audiences to question history, challenge assumptions and discover their own truths.
The production is directed by Dr. M. Sayeed Alam, one of India's most accomplished theatre directors and the founder of Pierrot's Troupe, among the country's oldest and most prolific theatre companies.
