About The Event
M se Maa explores the many dimensions of motherhood through movement, music, storytelling and evocative stage imagery. The multidisciplinary performance seamlessly weaves together everyday life, memory, imagination and mythology.
At its heart is the journey of a mother and daughter—from childhood wonder to growing distance, and eventually, the daughter stepping into motherhood herself. As the piece unfolds, M se Maa expands into stories of mothers from different social, economic and emotional realities—women navigating care giving, labor, sacrifice, resilience and survival in vastly different worlds. Through lullabies, childhood games, festivals and everyday rituals, the production celebrates the fierce, playful, nurturing and resilient spirit of motherhood, while also making space for its quieter emotions—the loneliness, the silences and the ache of the empty nest.
Rather than following a linear narrative, M se Maa unfolds like memory itself—fluid, layered, playful and deeply human. Through music and rich visual storytelling, it creates a theatrical experience that is intimate in emotion yet cinematic in scale, inviting audiences to reflect on the stories, traditions and love that shape us across generations.
