Set over the course of a night in Vrindavan, Maiyya follows Achyutaa, a restless child haunted by the stories her mother once told her. As she performs them for an audience that becomes her playmate, the line between life and story begins to blur. Beneath the mischief, however, lies a quiet dread: her mother is retreating into silence. As the night deepens, so does Achyutaa’s frantic effort to retrieve her, and to outrun her.
Inspired by Geetanjali Shree’s Mai, this intimate, interactive solo performance in Hindi explores a subtler face of resistance: silence, and its refusal of the love that seeks to save. Maiyya is an invitation to play with a child teetering on the edge of her own madness, set against the backdrop of Kathika Haveli.
